From the inspiring and crafty avenues of Auroville and from the determination and moral responsibility of a hard working designer was born Woodshells. As Kavya, the founder and visualizer, kickstarted her dream project in 2018, little did she know she would spark a transformation. A transformation of not just your physical interior space but also a transformation in the way lamps can be made organically without losing out on the intricacy and inspiration in design.

Kavya assiduously worked with French Designers and Local artisans in Pondicherry to understand the process of extraction of various fibres like bamboo, banana, jute and the likes. This is where she learnt the art of developing a product from sketching to handcrafting. At Woodshells, it is our sincere endeavour to go 100% plastic free in the near future and continue producing lamps that are made of natural materials like Bamboo, Banana Fibre, Jute, Cane and Hand made paper.

Each one has a role to play they say. And as consumers we have so much power to change the world by being careful in what we buy. Each shape, each curve and each beacon of light from Woodshells is a manifestation of this change. So wouldn’t it be wonderful if you and I could light up this world one lamp at a time?

When you take one of the precious lamps from Woodshells home, you take along with you a piece of art, hours of designing and labour, careful experimentations, the passion to create something unique and a conscious effort towards sustainability.
